Celebrate Black dads campaign
Our recent study shows less than half of Black dads believe mainstream media, social media and popular culture portray them accurately.* But Black dads are here, caring for their kids every day. That’s why we’re committed to fighting false stereotypes and celebrating Black fatherhood on social media and beyond.

Father’s Day Taken Fund
In 2021, we set up the Father’s Day Taken Fund to invest $1 million for families who have lost fathers to racial violence. For this initiative we’re working with the Cordale Q Handy In Remembrance of Me Foundation – an organization whose mission is to “fight for justice for the children and families affected by police violence.”

Black Men’s Summit
In 2021, we also hosted the first Commit to C.A.R.E. Now Black Men’s Summit to elevate public discourse about the harmful misrepresentation of Black men and highlight the work being done to change this false narrative and positively impact society.

Commit to C.A.R.E Now initiative
In 2020, we launched the Commit To C.A.R.E. (Care About Racial Equity) Now initiative as a response to the consistent injustices, stereotypes and negative attitudes about Black men in society. The initiative tackles issues that affect Black men every day – including public safety, community engagement, and the accurate portrayal of Black men in media and culture.

Bias Against Black Men study
In 2020, we also published Bias Against Black Men: A Study on Stereotypes, Perceptions and The Impact on Black Men and Boys. The key findings include:
Black men and boys are seen as inferior to white men in almost every aspect of their lives. This bias is rooted in the fabric of society and permeates the existence of Black men and boys.
The media is layered with images of Black men as aggressors and in need of law and order. While there has been a broadening of these images, Black men are still far from equitable in the media.

The CROWN Act
In 2019, our amazing partners at Dove co-founded the CROWN Coalition** to advance anti-hair discrimination legislation called The CROWN Act. The CROWN Act (which stands for ‘Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair’) is a law that prohibits discrimination based on hair texture and hairstyle.
