What could be more powerful than a heart-to-heart? Hear like-minded women speak honestly about beauty, empowerment, their body confidence journeys, and more. Immerse yourself in their worlds through our series of virtual heart-to-hearts in partnership with Refinery29.

From campaigning for period poverty and body positivity, to mental health advocacy and more, these young activists are using their voices to influence, inspire and encourage action. We partnered with Refinery29 to chat to nine inspirational young people about how they want to change the world.

If you’ve been thinking about creating a happier, healthier IG feed (and let’s be real, you should be!), look no further than the advice shared by these young women in partnership with @dove. Sister activists Ella (15) and Amy (17) who co-founded @kidsagainstplastic say that, “Community is everything. Make sure the right people are around you online.” Therapist @katehogan_wellbeing agrees that creating meaningful connections and building communities online is essential, especially when there are limitations around seeing people in real life. “If you join a community that makes you feel inferior, guilty or insignificant then it’s not your community. There’s a theory that says we are the average of the five people we spend most time with, so, for example, if you’re hanging out with positive and open-minded people – you become more positive and open-minded too. Apply this to your social media and choose to surround yourself with people you find inspiring and uplifting.” ✨ Photography: @pppythrpe #dovexrefinery29

Here’s how to create an IG feed that makes you feel more joy! We turned to young women to share their advice in partnership with @dove 🤗 22-year-old activist Kim Mamhende’s sound advice (👆above) is all about taking action to create the feed you want, “Be proactive about protecting your own space and what you allow to get through to you.” Therapist @katehogan_wellbeing agrees, “Seek out real life activities that bring you joy as well as diversifying your feed. Social media can be a great way to explore a new hobby before immersing yourself in it in real life.” You could: 🔍 Search hashtags of things you’re into or would like to find out more about, whether it’s surfing, interior design or cats, and follow away! 👋🏾 Consider reaching out to people who are talking about your interests – tell them you love their posts as an opener – you may make some new friends in the process. 🤣Find accounts that simply make you laugh or bring you joy - there is a lot of heaviness in the world at the moment and it’s important for our wellbeing to get a balance with what we’re consuming online.
