Together, UNICEF and Dove
Together, Dove and UNICEF are supporting young people’s self-esteem and body confidence, by providing young people in India with education materials to help them thrive.
Our mission: fostering confidence for a brighter future, Dove and UNICEF are dedicated to enhancing self-esteem and body-confidence in boys and girls through our partnership, which integrates vital life-skills into education. By addressing gender barriers, and offering alternative learning opportunities, we’re hoping to empower adolescents aged 11-18 to unlock their full potential.
Positive self-esteem contributes to the learning of life skills and enhances young people’s ability to gain and retain employment. This vital work will not only contribute towards their body-confidence, but will also contribute to their retention, transition, and completion of the education cycle, enabling young people to gain the needed skills to succeed in school, work, and life.
The partnership will continue to adapt modules on self-esteem and body confidence from the Dove Self-Esteem Project and include them in UNICEF programmes that teach young people essential life skills. These modules will be included within UNICEF’s existing life-skills programmes for young people in India, so that they can learn about their rights to things like education and healthcare, as well growing their self-confidence.
Through UNICEF and Dove’s partnership starting in 2019, we have:
Reached over seven million students in India through self-esteem lesson kits delivered through the curriculum, exceeding the partnership’s goal of supporting 6.25 million students with valuable life skills materials.
Supported over 130,000 adolescents in Brazil with body confidence and self-esteem materials, both through in-person sessions and online through UNICEF’s Topity chatbot.
And delivered Life Skills Education to over 9 million young people in Indonesia, embedding into government digital learning platform for training of junior school teachers and exceeding our goal of reaching 700,000 students.
We have reached over 16.5 million people through the first phase of the partnership, and we’re continuing our work in the second phase of our partnership where we are aiming to provide educational resources on self-esteem and body confidence to 16.4 million young people in India over the next two years. By working with state governments, we will aim advance the life skills programme in eight states across India, aiming to address the self-esteem concerns of young people aged 11-14 and 15+ years.
