Did you know that eight out of 10 girls are so concerned with the way they look that they opt out of important activities?
From playing sports and swimming to visiting the doctor, going to school or just offering an opinion, anxiety about their looks can keep girls from living life to the full.
And seven out of ten report putting their health at risk by not eating or not going to visit the doctor when they don’t feel good about the way they look.
The Dove Self-Esteem Project
At Dove, we have a vision of a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. Our mission is to ensure the next generation grows up enjoying a positive relationship with the way they look – helping young people to raise their self-esteem and realise their full potential.
In 2004, we turned this vision and mission into the Dove Self-Esteem Project. We work with leading experts in the area of body image to develop evidence based tools. We’ve reached over 82 million young people with self-esteem education so far, and together we can reach ¼ billion by 2030. Our resources include tools for parents, mentors, teachers, and youth leaders and are free to download and proven to build positive body confidence.
Our partners
We know we can’t change the world alone. So we have sought out and are working with some inspirational partner organizations to help us achieve our goals. Together with groups such as NEDIC, ANEB and Plan Canada (Because I am a Girl) we are able to reach even more girls with self-esteem education that will help them to reach their full potential.
